Q: What happens if it is heated longer than 50 consecutive seconds? (Why is there a safety warning?)

It will melt the inner part of the scent and burn through the fabric. My husband was trying to be helpful while i was in bed and did a minute and a half and it melted the velcro permanantly shut.

Q: Can you remove the lavender scent?

I do not know. This was a gift. I have not seen it in person. Sounds like you can remove the therapy pouch that contains the clay beads and lavender scented flowers but my bet is you can not remove the lavender from the therapy pouch. Just guessing.
