Q: Hi, is it real snow or just looks like snow

It looks like snow, it a variation of soap bubbles that look like falling snow. We used it in a stage production and it was very believable.

Q: can the control box be outside or does it have to be inside, was wondering about rain?

You can always control thru DMX or you can buy a separate wireless remote.

Q: how long does the snow last?

Depends on type of fluid and volume output. The “longer lasting” the formula combined with the “higher output” settings have created effects that were still visible by morning. Water and sunshine will dramatically reduce longevity.

Q: Can anyone speak to the reliability of this machine? Does it work each time? Does it last for years? Does it withstand cleanings/touring/etc.

This is a rock-solid product, built to last and use in professional studios. That said you should always run distilled water through it after each use if it is going to sit for weeks on end without use.
